A person, believed to be a worker, was left seriously injured and rushed to the hospital following an accident at a manufacturing facility in Crystal Lake, fire officials said.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday to Serv-All Die and Tool Company, 110 Erick Street in Crystal Lake, for a traumatic injury call.

Crystal Lake Deputy Fire Chief Mark Menzel said a 911 call was received reporting a person suffered a laceration.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived and found a victim with a hand injury. It was not immediately clear what caused the injury, Menzel said.

The victim, who was believed to be a worker, suffered a serious injury that prompted responders to request a medical helicopter, Menzel said.

The helicopter was requested to meet the ambulance at the helipad at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

Crews intended to transfer the patient to the helicopter so they could be flown to a Level 1 trauma center.

Menzel said the closest available helicopter was an extended time from the scene and was canceled.

Paramedics transported the patient by ground directly to the emergency room at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry and transferred patient care to hospital staff, Menzel said.
