Authorities say a man died at the hospital after he was found unresponsive following a possible medical-related crash into a rock near Antioch Sunday afternoon.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Antioch Fire Department responded around 2 p.m. Sunday to Route 173 and North Lake Avenue in unincorporated Antioch for a report of a vehicle crash.
Deputies and firefighter/medics arrived to find a vehicle that crashed into a large rock, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.
The vehicle, a Kia Sedona minivan, crashed off North Lake Avenue just north of Route 173.
The driver of the Kia, a 52-year-old Antioch man, was found unresponsive, Covelli said.
Rescue personnel attempted life-saving efforts and transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.
“Based on the investigation, it appears likely the man suffered a medical event prior to crashing,” Covelli said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy on the man, whose identity has not been released yet.
