State police have announced the arrest of a Rockford police officer who has been charged in McHenry County and other counties with numerous felony offenses.
The Illinois State Police (ISP) said Wednesday that Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 2 Special Agents submitted additional criminal charges for an ongoing home fraud and theft investigation.
The case involved Corey Roser, 35, of Rockford, who is employed as an officer with the Rockford Police Department.
The Rockford Police Department requested that ISP investigate Roser’s on-duty and off-duty business practices for multiple offenses allegedly committed in 2024 and 2025.
The Rockford Police Department placed Roser on administrative leave at the beginning of the investigation and he has remained on leave throughout the investigation.
ISP’s investigation led to Roser first being charged in February in Winnebago County with five counts of theft of property over $500 but less than $10,000, a Class 3 felony; four counts of home repair fraud, a Class 4 felony; and one count of official misconduct, a Class 3 felony.
New victims and evidence were discovered after his initial arrest, leading to additional charges, state police said.
Roser has now been charged with two counts of theft by deception, a Class 3 felony, and one count of burglary, a Class 2 felony, for incidents in McHenry County and DeKalb County.
ISP special agents submitted their additional findings to the DeKalb and McHenry County state’s attorneys’ offices, which both issued warrants for Roser’s arrest.
Roser turned himself in to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.
Court documents said Roser stole $500-$10,000 in property by deception from a couple who live on Garlieb Drive in Huntley.
Roser was released from the McHenry County Jail following an Initial Appearance Court hearing on Wednesday where he was ordered to have no contact with the victims.
State police say the investigation remains ongoing and ISP Zone 2 is asking any other possible victims or people with information of the crimes to contact them at 815-987-7300.
