Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire that was caused by smoking materials before it could seriously damage a house in Lake in the Hills, fire officials said.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday to the 0-100 block of Walnut Drive in Lake in the Hills for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived in five minutes and encountered smoky conditions from the rear of the house, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Chief John Knebl said.
Fire crews worked to extinguish the fire on the rear deck quickly and checked for extension into the home.
The fire was declared out five minutes after the fire department arrived.
No residents or firefighters were injured, Knebl said. The home remains habitable to the residents.
The Huntley Fire Protection District, Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District and Carpentersville Fire Department.
The cause of the fire was determined to be from smoking materials but it is still under investigation by the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, Knebl said.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
