A brush fire quickly spread and burned approximately 15 acres of field after a controlled burn blew embers into the field near Hebron Monday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District responded around 1:17 p.m. Monday to the 11600 block of Vanderkarr Road in unincorporated Hebron for a report of a brush fire.
Fire crews arrived and reported approximately five acres of land actively burning.
Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District Thomas Linneman said a field of unplowed corn stubble was on fire.
The Richmond Fire Protection District, Wonder Lake Fire Protection District and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District were called to assist.
Firefighters worked for approximately an hour to extinguish the fire, Linneman said.
The fire ultimately burned approximately 15 acres of the corn field, located east of Route 47.
No injuries were reported and no structures were reported damaged, Linneman said.
It was determined that the fire was accidentally caused. Dry conditions and a low dew point led to the fire spreading quickly.
Linneman said embers from a small brush pile blew into the corn field, which caused the fire.
