The bomb squad was called after a suspicious package was found near a utility hub, prompting Sheridan Road to be shut down in Lake Bluff, authorities said.
The Lake Bluff Police Department responded around 8:55 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Sheridan Road and Ravine Forest Drive in Lake Bluff for a report of a suspicious package.
Officers arrived and found the item, which was a small box with a handwritten note, according to police officials.
The note was addressed to utility workers and the package was found near a utility hub.
The Lake Bluff Police Department, Lake Bluff Fire Department and numerous local law enforcement partners coordinated a response to evaluate the item.
The Waukegan Fire Department Bomb Squad was called to the scene along with an explosives detection dog.
Police officials said a “thorough investigation” was conducted and they confirmed there was no danger to the public.
Officers shut down Sheridan Road in both directions during the incident. The scene was cleared by 11:50 a.m.
Police said in an update on Friday that they have determined the origin of the item but did not say where it originated from or what it contained.
No charges have been filed in connection with the incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
“The Village of Lake Bluff continues to prioritize the safety of its residents,” the department said.
