One person was found dead inside a car that crashed into a tree and became fully engulfed in flames near Huntley Sunday morning, fire officials said.
The Huntley Fire Protection District and Kane County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:52 a.m. Sunday to Brier Hill Road and Dietrich Road in unincorporated Huntley for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Michael Pierce said fire crews arrived in five minutes and found a single-vehicle crash.
The vehicle, a mid-size SUV, had crashed into a tree and caught on fire. A passerby called to report the crash.
The car was heavily engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived, Pierce said.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and discovered the driver was deceased inside the vehicle.
The crash, which occurred directly in the intersection, involved the single vehicle and only one occupant was in the car, Pierce said.
Pierce said the driver’s age and gender are currently unknown and investigators are working to identify them.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office shut down Dietrich Road at Route 20 and Brier Hill Road at Copperwynd Road for several hours.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to take possession of the victim for the autopsy and to work on identification.
The sheriff’s office has not released any information on the incident as of Sunday afternoon.
