A one-month-old baby died on Monday after he was found by his parents unresponsive at a house in Zion and rushed to the hospital Monday morning.

The Zion Fire and Rescue Department and Zion Police Department responded around 10:15 a.m. Monday to the 2200 block of Horeb Avenue in Zion for a report of a person not breathing.

Police officers arrived first and found a several-week-old baby who was unconscious and not breathing.

Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said the parents discovered the child, who had been sleeping, not breathing and immediately called 911.

Paramedics arrived and took over lifesaving measures by police and rushed the boy to Vista Medical Center East in Zion.

Newton said the one-month-old was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the hospital to take possession of the child for an autopsy.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday at the coroner’s office but no cause and manner of death has been determined.

The results are pending further medical studies, Newton said, adding that no foul play is suspected.

The incident remains under investigation by the Zion Police Department and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
