A family of four was left homeless after a fire broke out on the rear of their house and left it damaged, prompting multiple fire departments to respond, in Crystal Lake Thursday evening.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 10:01 p.m. Thursday to the 200 block of West Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake for a report of a medical call.
Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department Battalion Chief Brian Tamason said the 911 dispatcher continued to gather additional information from the caller and learned there was a possible structure fire.
Firefighters arrived and found a single-family residence with flames from the rear exterior of the home.
Fire crews upgraded the incident to a Working Fire response to bring additional resources to the scene, Tamason said.
It was learned there was no medical emergency or injuries as initially reported.
Tamason said firefighters deployed a hose line to extinguish the fire and conduct a search of the home for anyone possibly trapped.
The fire was brought under control at 10:10 p.m., less than 10 minutes after the call was dispatched.
Firefighters ventilated the smoke from the residence and conducted overhaul operations to check if the fire had extended.
The fire damage was contained to the exterior of the home and caused approximately $10,000 in damage, Tamason said.
The residence was deemed uninhabitable due to exterior damage to some of the utilities.
A family of four has sought alternative living arrangements until their utilities can be restored.
No injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters, Tamason said.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Cary, Huntley and McHenry fire protection districts responded to the scene while the Carpentersville and Woodstock fire departments covered calls in Crystal Lake.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.
