A woman was seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash that caused heavy damage and completely shut down Route 14 near Harvard Thursday evening, fire officials said.
The Harvard Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:24 p.m. Thursday to the 19000 block of Route 14 in unincorporated Harvard for a report of a multi-vehicle crash with unknown injuries.
Harvard Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said firefighters arrived to find two vehicles involved with heavy damage.
The crash occurred south of Lembcke Road and no extrication was required.
Both drivers were out of their vehicles when emergency crews arrived, Vucha said. They were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
A second ambulance and a chief officer from Woodstock Fire/Rescue District were requested to the scene to assist.
A female driver was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Rockford with serious injuries, Vucha said.
The second female driver involved was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Route 14 remained shut down in both directions for nearly two hours while crews treated the victims and cleared the scene.
“The Harvard Fire Protection District appreciates the assistance of the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District for providing additional resources on scene and the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District for providing station coverage during the incident,” Vucha said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash. It is unknown if any citations or charges have been issued.
