A Vernon Hills man was tased and taken into custody by deputies after they say he tried forcing his way into a house in Green Oaks, blocking a victim from escaping and trying to crash his car into the residence Thursday morning.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:30 a.m. Thursday to the 1900 block of Kenton Lane in Green Oaks for a 911 call reporting a male subject attempting to force entry into a residence.

The suspect, identified as Grant Manning, 36, of Vernon Hills, allegedly used his vehicle to block the victim’s vehicle inside a garage to prevent escape, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Matthew Harmon.

It was reported that Manning also shattered a front bay window of the residence.

The victim believed Manning was possibly able to gain entry into the home but later returned to his vehicle and attempted to crash it into the residence, Harmon said.

Additional 911 calls were received from nearby residents reporting that Manning was outside the home yelling and running through neighboring yards.

Deputies arrived and located Manning, who was covered in blood and displaying aggressive and uncooperative behavior, Harmon said.

He refused to comply with verbal commands and continued to act aggressively toward responding deputies.

A taser was deployed to safely gain control of Manning and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Harmon said deputies provided initial medical care for visible injuries Manning suffered while trying to force his way into the home.

Paramedics arrived and transported Manning to a local hospital where he was treated for lacerations from breaking the glass windows.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and approved charges against Manning of unlawful restraint, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault to a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.
