An 18-year-old man was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed by another person before being found outside Johnsburg High School Friday evening.

The Johnsburg Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 9:41 p.m. Friday to Johnsburg High School, 2002 West Johnsburg Road in Johnsburg, for a report of a stabbing.

Fire crews arrived and found a male victim who was suffering a stab wound in the front parking lot, according to emergency radio traffic.

A LifeNet helicopter was requested and a landing zone was established at the high school.

Police officials said the victim was an 18-year-old man who suffered a stab wound to the abdomen.

Officers learned the incident occurred in the 5400 block of Heather Lane in the neighborhood adjacent to the high school.

Police officials said the victim and another 18-year-old man were involved in a dispute when one male stabbed the other with a knife.

The victim was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.

His exact condition was not released but he has been stabilized and is expected to recover, police officials said.

Johnsburg School District 12 said the incident occurred near the school but not on campus and they have been in communication with the police department.

The parking lot of the high school was used by emergency personnel as a landing zone for the helicopter, the district added. Johnsburg High School is out of session for spring break this week.

Both men involved are cooperating with investigators.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and no charges have been filed yet.
