A McHenry man was arrested after police say he was caught video recording another male in the restroom of a grocery store in DeKalb County and is believed to have committed similar incidents elsewhere.

The Sycamore Police Department responded on March 1 to the Meijer, 541 Puri Parkway in Sycamore, for a report of an unlawful recording incident.

Police said they received a complaint of a male subject unlawfully recording another male in the store’s restroom.

The suspect left the store prior to police officers’ arrival.

The victim took a photo of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving, which aided investigators, police officials said.

The suspect was identified as Jerardo Hernandez Alonzo, 20, of McHenry.

Police later interviewed Hernandez Alonzo at his residence where he ultimately confessed.

Hernandez Alonzo’s cell phone was seized and forensically searched, police officials said.

The analysis showed evidence of similar incidents that took place in a different jurisdiction more than a year prior.

The Sycamore Police Department said they have notified the appropriate law enforcement agency in that jurisdiction and a separate investigation has been initiated.

An arrest warrant was issued for Hernandez Alonzo on Tuesday and he turned himself in to police to be processed.

Hernandez Alonzo was charged with one count of unauthorized video recording, a Class 4 felony.

Hernandez Alonzo was booked at the police department and released with a notice to appear in court. The charges are non-detainable under the Illinois SAFE-T Act.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 7.
