A woman was seriously injured and flown to the hospital after she and another man were ejected from a motorcycle during a collision with an SUV on Route 12 near Richmond Sunday afternoon.
The Richmond Township Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:30 p.m. Sunday to the area of Stateline Tobacco, 11519 Route 12 in unincorporated Richmond, for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported two riders from a motorcycle were ejected after a crash, according to emergency radio traffic.
Both were reported to be down in the roadway. Mercyhealth MD-1, a mobile response physician, was also requested to the scene.
Fire crews arrived in minutes and found two victims injured from a motorcycle after a crash involving another vehicle, according to fire officials.
The crash occurred just south of the Illinois-Wisconsin stateline.
Bloomfield Genoa City Fire & Rescue in Wisconsin was requested to the scene with an ambulance.
Fire officials said one of the injured victims was a female in her 60s, who was the passenger on the motorcycle.
A medical evaluation determined that a medical helicopter was needed for her transport to the hospital.
An ambulance transported her to the Richmond Township Fire Protection District station on Hunter Drive in Richmond where a landing zone was established, fire officials said.
A LifeNet medical helicopter landed and the ambulance transferred the woman to the flight crew.
The helicopter flew her to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
She suffered serious injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening, fire officials said.
Bloomfield Genoa City Fire & Rescue treated and transported the male motorcycle driver to a hospital in Wisconsin in good condition.
The Twin Lakes Fire Department and Rescue Squad provided an ambulance for station coverage at Richmond’s fire station.
“The Richmond Township Fire Protection District reminds all motorists to be aware of all vehicles on a roadway, especially motorcycles, and asks that motorcyclists wear a helmet when riding,” the fire district said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office shut down Route 12 from Commercial Street to the Illinois-Wisconsin state line for over four hours until 8 p.m. Sunday during the investigation.
The sheriff’s office has not released any information on the incident as of Monday.
