Multiple fire departments were called after a fire burned approximately 20 acres of a cornfield near Huntley Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.

The Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 4:03 p.m. Saturday to the area of Route 47 and Big Timber Road in unincorporated Huntley for a report of a brush fire.

Fire crews arrived and found an active fire in the cornfield west of Route 47 along Big Timber Road.

The fire was not accessible from the roadway and brush trucks were called to the scene to aid in extinguishment.

Huntley Fire Protection District Acting Battalion Chief Todd Penkava said the fire was called in to 911 by a passerby.

The fire burned approximately 20 acres and it took approximately two hours to extinguish, Penkava said.

The Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire Protection District and the Rutland Dundee Fire Protection District responded to assist.

The fire occurred in an area that has no fire hydrants, Penkava said. A water tender truck was also dispatched.

Firefighters stopped the fire before it could damage any structures.

No road closures were needed and no one was injured, Penkava said.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene for a farmer but he did not require transport to the hospital.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known and remains under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.
