A medical helicopter was initially called before a construction worker was rushed to the hospital by ambulance after suffering a laceration at a manufacturing plant in Spring Grove Wednesday afternoon.

The Spring Grove Fire Protection District and Spring Grove Police Department responded around 2:19 p.m. Wednesday to Scot Forge, 8001 Winn Road, for a report of a traumatic injury.

A 911 caller reported a person had suffered a laceration to the upper arm that was bleeding, according to emergency radio traffic.

A tourniquet was applied to the victim’s arm before paramedics arrived.

Fire crews arrived and were directed to a construction area on the south side of the railroad tracks.

Spring Grove Fire Chief Paul Klicker said the incident involved an outside contractor who was not an employee of Scot Forge.

The construction worker, an adult male, suffered injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening, Klicker said.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested to land at Spring Grove Horse Fair Park.

The helicopter had a 16-minute estimated arrival and fire crews later canceled the helicopter.

Klicker said it was determined the injury did not require a helicopter transport.

An ambulance transported the man to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for treatment, Klicker said. The victim was reported to be stable at the hospital.

The fire chief declined to say what exactly led to the injury but said it did not appear to involve a machine.

“Emergency responders were promptly contacted, and the individual was transported by ambulance. Scot Forge will be unable to provide an update on the individual’s condition, as the incident involved an outside contractor,” Scot Forge said.
