Fire officials are investigating what caused the back of a house under renovation to catch on fire, causing heavy damage, in Beach Park last Monday.
The Beach Park Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:15 p.m. on March 30 to the 37800 block of North Wilson Avenue in Beach Park for a report of a structure fire.
Beach Park Fire Chief Thomas Stahl said that the neighbor called 911 to report the house fire.
Firefighters arrived in minutes and found smoke coming from the two-story home.
The house was being renovated and no one was home at the time, Stahl said.
A Working Still Alarm was requested, which brought in additional firefighters from surrounding departments.
Crews deployed hose lines and brought the fire under control within 20-30 minutes.
The fire was contained to the back of the house and the kitchen area, Stahl said.
The home sustained smoke and heat damage in many other areas.
The fire appears to have started at the rear of the house at or near the deck area, Stahl said.
No one was injured.
Technicians with North Shore Gas and ComEd responded to the scene.
The Zion, Winthrop Harbor, Newport Township, Pleasant Prairie, Waukegan and Gurnee fire departments assisted the Beach Park Fire Department at the scene.
The fire remains under investigation by the Beach Park Fire Department.
