Multiple gunmen, possibly juveniles, fired over 20 gunshots and wounded a 55-year-old victim on the border of Waukegan and North Chicago, police said.
The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 2:10 p.m. on March 19 to the area of 10th Street and Glenn Drive in North Chicago for a report of a shooting.
North Chicago Fire Chief John Umek said paramedics found the victim at a different location, a few blocks away.
The victim had been shot in the foot and was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where they were stable.
North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn said officers determined the shooting occurred in Waukegan.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department also responded to the scene, which was in the 1100 block of 10th Street in Waukegan.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Craig Neal said Wednesday that while the victim was located on 10th Street, officers located the shooting scene in the 1100 block of Elizabeth Avenue.
The 55-year-old Aurora resident suffered a single gunshot wound to the foot.
They were treated at the hospital and later released, Neal said.
Officers located a vehicle parked in the area that had been struck by possible gunfire.
Officers found five 9mm, six .22 caliber and 11 .40 caliber casings on the ground at the scene.
Witnesses told investigators there was a group of approximately eight juveniles standing in the street in the 1100 block of Elizabeth Avenue just prior to the shooting, Neal said.
Officers were unable to locate or identify any suspects at the time of the investigation.
The case remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
