SWAT teams carried out a search warrant at a Mundelein home Wednesday morning and arrested a 19-year-old who allegedly had rifle ammunition as part of an “ongoing criminal investigation.”
Julian Lazar, 19, of Mundelein, was charged with one count of unlawful possession of ammunition without a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card, a Class A misdemeanor.
The Mundelein Police Department, with assistance from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team, executed a search warrant at Lazar’s home in the 1000 block of Wrens Gate in Mundelein Wednesday morning.
“The search warrant was a result of an active, ongoing criminal investigation that is being conducted by Mundelein Police Detectives,” Mundelein Police Department Commander of Investigations Rick Wilfenger said.
The suspect, Lazar, immediately surrendered to police and was arrested without incident.
Police found rifle ammunition inside the home and Lazar does not have a FOID card, Wilfenger said.
Lazar was released and issued a court appearance for May 8 at the Lake County Courthouse.
It is unknown if Lazar will face additional charges.
Lazar was seen speaking to detectives while handcuffed in the back of a squad car after the SWAT operation.
He was later transferred to another squad car and was driven away from the scene at around 11:20 a.m.
Multiple detectives were seen searching the home, garage and a car parked in the garage throughout the morning.
Mundelein Police are continuing to investigate the case, and additional information was not immediately available.
