A crash that resulted in an SUV on its roof and one person injured was caused by a driver who failed to yield while making a left turn on Grand Avenue in Gurnee on Tuesday.
The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday to Grand Avenue and Lawson Boulevard in Gurnee for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Police officers and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find a Lexus SUV and a Hyundai SUV involved in the crash, which occurred near the main entrance to Six Flags Great America.
The Hyundai was on its roof in the eastbound lanes of Grand Avenue, while the Lexus was upright.
Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said a preliminary investigation shows the Lexus was traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue while the Hyundai was westbound on Grand Avenue.
The Lexus attempted to make a left turn onto Lawson Boulevard, but failed to yield to oncoming traffic, Gaylor said.
The Lexus crashed with the Hyundai.
“As a result of the collision, the Hyundai overturned,” Gaylor said.
Paramedics transported the driver of the Hyundai to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Lexus reported no injuries, Gaylor said.
The crash temporarily shut down the westbound lanes of Grand Avenue while emergency responders and tow truck crews worked the scene.
Police investigated and issued a citation to the driver of the Lexus for failing to yield when turning left.
Gurnee police officers and firefighter/paramedics were kept busy Tuesday evening.
Just an hour prior, three cars crashed at Route 41 and Ferndale Street, which also left an SUV rolled over.
Seven people were taken to the hospital in that crash.
