Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire was placed on soft lockdown and officers were dispatched after a male called police and made threats of violence toward the school Tuesday morning.
The Lincolnshire Police Department received a call on its non-emergency line from a male around 11:32 a.m. Tuesday.
Lincolnshire Deputy Police Chief Kimberly Covelli said the caller, who used a blocked phone number, made “threats of imminent violence” at Stevenson High School, 1 Stevenson Drive in Lincolnshire.
Officers immediately responded to the school and began coordinating with school administrators.
School officials implemented a secure campus protocol as a precautionary measure, Covelli said.
The measure restricted access to the campus while allowing normal operations inside the building to continue.
The Lincolnshire Police Department requested assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies, which responded with multiple canine teams for explosive and firearm detection, Covelli said.
The canines conducted a search of the exterior of the school grounds.
The search did not locate anything suspicious and investigators believe there is no threat to the safety of students, staff or the community.
Covelli said the call may have been a “swatting incident” and detectives are continuing to investigate.
Swatting is making a call to law enforcement claiming there is a serious crime in progress at a home, workplace, government building or school when there is no actual emergency, prompting a police response.
