Firefighters spent approximately 40 minutes extricating two victims left heavily trapped and seriously injured in a truck that rolled over during a crash near Richmond Thursday morning.

The Richmond Township Fire Protection District responded around 11:39 a.m. Thursday to the area of Route 173 and Keystone Road in unincorporated Richmond for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Police officers at the scene reported people trapped in the wreckage and the incident was upgraded.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived in six minutes and found two vehicles involved, fire officials said.

One of the vehicles was a pickup truck that rolled over onto its side and the other was a passenger car.

Fire officials said the pickup truck had two adult occupants who were both trapped inside.

Fire crews spent approximately 40 minutes, until 12:30 p.m., extricating both victims.

Both occupants were transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry, fire officials said.

The adult driver of the passenger car was also transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

Fire officials said the victims’ injuries were not believed to be life-threatening but they were in serious condition.

The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District assisted at the scene while the Wonder Lake and Spring Grove fire districts covered Richmond’s fire station during the incident.

Firefighters cleared the scene just before 1 p.m. and tow trucks responded to clear the damaged vehicles.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
