A Highland Park man and former real estate executive has been sentenced to probation after he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child at a fitness center in Northbrook as police say there could be more victims.
Michael A. Tobin, 73, of Highland Park, was charged in December 2024 with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a child.
A plea hearing was held in mid-February and Tobin pleaded guilty to criminal sexual abuse, a Class 4 felony, and aggravated battery in a public place, a Class 3 felony, court records show.
The Northbrook Police Department said the case stemmed from an incident in 2024 where Tobin sexually abused a 15-year-old boy at a fitness center in Northbrook.
The incident occurred at Life Time Fitness, 1100 Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook, on July 6, 2024.
The investigation began when the juvenile victim disclosed the abuse to his mother, who called 911, police officials said.
Court records show Tobin was sentenced to 24 months of probation in Cook County.
He was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years, get STD/HIV testing, obtain a sex offender evaluation and follow all recommended treatment, and have no contact with the victim.
Tobin was also ordered not to possess any weapons, not to leave the state without court permission, to pay all court fines and fees and to submit to DNA indexing.
“However, sex offenses are often underreported,” police officials said in a statement after Tobin’s case concluded.
The Northbrook Police Department is asking anyone who believes they or a family member may have been abused by Tobin to contact them at 847-564-2060 or their local law enforcement agency.
Tobin is a former Chicago real estate executive. A biography described him as a 40+ year veteran in the commercial real estate industry.
Tobin joined Rush Street Gaming in 2019 as a senior vice president for real estate and construction and was responsible for directing real estate activities for the company and its affiliated casinos and hotels, the biography said.
He was also a real estate developer prior to joining the company and served as the President & COO of Central Station Development Corporation.
