A 41-year-old worker died after he was critically injured when he fell 12 feet to the ground while working on a roof at a house in Gurnee, authorities said.

The Gurnee Fire Department and Gurnee Police Department responded around 7:37 p.m. on April 22 to the 7600 block of Canyon Court in Gurnee for a report of a fall victim.

Emergency crews arrived and found a male victim who was unresponsive after falling from a roof.

The man, identified as Pedro Gasca Alvarez, 41, of Carpentersville, was rushed by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton.

Gasca Alvarez had fallen headfirst approximately 12 feet off the roof of the single-family home, Newton said.

The man had been above the front door area of the home working on the roof.

Newton said Gasca Alvarez was pronounced dead in the intensive care unit of the hospital in the early afternoon on April 23.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and preliminary results indicate Gasca Alvarez died as a result of head injuries.

Gasca Alvarez was working with a crew but it is unknown what exactly they were doing on the roof at the time, Newton said.

Preliminary toxicology results indicate that Gasca Alvarez was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fall.
