Sue Rose of Indivisible McHenry County said more than 150 people showed up to the rally in McHenry despite cold, wind and some sleet.

“Thank you to each and every one of you who braved the unpleasant weather to show your support for American workers,” Rose said.

Attendees were invited to bring their own signs. Some signs said “ICE out. No war. No draft” and “Working people v greedy billionaries & pedophiles.”

Millions of people across the country were anticipated to participate in the May Day 2026 national day of action.

“We will flex our collective power to demand a country that puts workers over billionaires. We will demand no more terrorism by I.C.E., no more war, and an end to Trump’s private army that serves his authoritarian power,” an event advertisement said.

“We will demand that our democracy be preserved and that our right to vote is protected. Show Trump and his billionaire supporters that you mean business by attending Indivisible McHenry County’s protest rally and by participating in a one-day boycott: No shopping. No work. No school,” the event advertisement said.

Organizers said that it is going to take “more than a rally” to stop billionaires who “break every rule.”

“Tax the rich so our families, not their fortunes, come first. No ICE. No war.. No private army serving unchecked federal power. Expand democracy, not corporate power. Hands off our vote,” the organizers said.

“Together we will be flexing our collective muscle in a tremendous day of power – showing our unity through a day of marches, rallies, and actions including No Work No School No Shopping in many cities,” they added.

A similar protest was held on Friday along Route 14 in Crystal Lake by Indivisible Crystal Lake.
