Two men were hospitalized with serious injuries after an SUV went through a guardrail on Lake Cook Road and rolled over onto Interstate 294 near Deerfield, authorities said.
The Illinois State Police, Northbrook Fire Department and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded around 3:10 a.m. on April 25 to Interstate 294 in the area of Lake Cook Road in Deerfield for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported a black SUV had rolled over onto and was blocking two lanes of traffic, according to emergency radio traffic.
Troop 3 troopers arrived and found a single-vehicle crash involving a black BMW, state police said.
Troopers at the scene reported two people were trapped inside the car but were conscious with serious injuries.
Firefighters began working to extricate both victims and requested a medical helicopter to land at the scene but later canceled the helicopter response.
Both occupants were transported by ambulances to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment. Their injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.
The Riverwoods Police Department and Deerfield Police Department assisted at the scene near milepost 52.
State police said the SUV had been traveling eastbound on Lake Cook Road when it struck a guardrail and drove off onto Interstate 294.
The car came to rest rolled over on its driver’s side. The driver was identified as Conrad M. Dushek, 37, of Buffalo Grove.
State police said Dushek was driving under the influence of alcohol and had open alcohol in the car, which was not insured.
The passenger was identified as a 27-year-old Des Plaines man.
Dushek was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of open alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
