An elderly woman was flown to the hospital with apparent serious injuries after she fell down an entire flight of stairs at a house in Richmond Friday evening.

The Richmond Township Fire Protection responded around 9:40 p.m. Monday to the 5500 block of Mill Street in Richmond for a report of a fall victim.

Fire officials said an elderly female had fallen down a flight of stairs.

A 911 caller reported a woman in her 80s had fallen down approximately 15 steps and suffered a head injury.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and conducted an initial assessment of the patient.

They requested Mercyhealth MD-1, a mobile response doctor, to assist with advanced medical support, fire officials said.

Further evaluation determined that the victim required transport to a Level 1 trauma center.

A medical helicopter was requested and the closest available one was Flight For Life from Burlington, Wisconsin.

Fire officials said the helicopter responded and landed at a landing zone that was established at the Richmond fire station at 5601 Hunter Drive.

The ambulance transported the victim to the landing zone and she was transferred to the flight crew.

The helicopter flew the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

While her injuries appeared to be serious, fire officials said she was stable at the time of transport.
