No injuries were reported, but a home was deemed uninhabitable, following a basement fire in Huntley on Wednesday, authorities said.

Lt. Patrick Gordon of the Huntley Fire Protection District said crews were called to the 9700 block of Aberdeen Lane at 10:54 p.m. Wednesday for a reported structure fire in a two-story residential home.

He said initial reports indicated there was a fire in the basement of the home with visible smoke.

First-arriving units confirmed smoke conditions emanating from the basement of the residence, Gordon said.

Firefighters initiated a rapid interior attack, Gordon said, and successfully contained and extinguished the fire.

Following the initial knockdown, Gordon said, crews conducted extensive “overhaul” operations to check for fire extension and ensure no hidden hotspots remained within the structure.

No injuries were reported among residents or responding personnel, Gordon said.

Due to the smoke and fire damage sustained during the incident, the residence has been deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District’s Prevention Bureau.

The Huntley Fire Protection District was supported on-scene by automatic aid from the Algonquin and Carpentersville fire departments.
