Two people were injured following a two-vehicle crash involving a cement truck that had rolled over in Union on Friday, authorities said.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and Union Fire Protection District responded to the intersection of Marengo Road and Seeman Road in unincorporated Union for a reported crash with entrapment at 10:56 a.m. Friday.
Alex Vucha, Public Information Officer for the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts said multiple 911 callers advised that the crash involved a semi-truck that had rolled over.
Vucha said the first arriving crews located a two-vehicle crash with both vehicles off the roadway.
One of the vehicles, a ready-mix cement truck carrying a significant load of product, was found on its side, Vucha said.
The second vehicle, a minivan, sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side, trapping the adult male driver inside.
Firefighters worked quickly to remove the driver’s side door and free the sole occupant and driver of the minivan.
The driver of the cement truck had self-extricated prior to crews arriving and was walking at the scene.
Both drivers were evaluated by paramedics on scene and subsequently transported to a local hospital for further medical care, Vucha said.
Their condition is unknown at this time.
Due to the size and weight of the cement truck, Vucha said heavy wreckers were requested to the scene for recovery operations.
The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Vucha said.
