Residents were left displaced after a house fire near Harvard where the homeowner unsuccessfully tried to extinguish the blaze before firefighters arrived Thursday afternoon.
The Harvard Fire Protection District responded around 3:15 p.m. Thursday to the 20400 block of Windy Hill Road in unincorporated Harvard for a report of a structure fire.
Harvard Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said a homeowner reported there was a fire on the roof of their residence.
Fire crews arrived a short time later and found smoke showing from the two-story, single-family home.
Firefighters located a fire within an exterior wall near electrical wiring, Vucha said.
The blaze had extended into the interior of the residence.
Vucha said the resident attempted to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers prior to firefighters arriving on the scene.
Firefighters stretched hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire.
Fire crews removed siding and sections of interior drywall to confirm that all fire had been fully extinguished due to the blaze extending through portions of the wall.
Firefighters also checked for any hidden fire extension, Vucha said. The home was deemed uninhabitable until repairs can be made.
No injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters.
The incident does not appear to be suspicious in nature but remains under investigation by the Harvard Fire Protection District.
