Sheriff’s deputies arrested a juvenile suspect who reportedly stabbed his grandfather multiple times, requiring him to be flown to the hospital, near McHenry Thursday evening.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 9 p.m. Thursday to the 5300 block of Leeside Street in unincorporated McHenry for a report of a stabbing.
A 911 caller reported a man had been stabbed by his grandson.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene and reported the victim had been stabbed approximately three times, according to emergency radio traffic.
The suspect involved had fled the scene in a vehicle before the sheriff’s office arrived.
Sheriff’s officials said a preliminary investigation determined the incident was domestic-related in nature.
They said they believe it was an isolated occurrence and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Sheriff’s officials said the suspect was identified and is a juvenile.
The suspect was located and taken into custody shortly after the stabbing without further incident.
A medical helicopter was placed on standby and paramedics transported him to the LifeNet helicopter base where he was transferred to the flight crew.
The man was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was treated and has since been released, sheriff’s officials said.
The juvenile suspect was petitioned on charges of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, both felony offenses.
The juvenile was transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center and ordered detained.
Sheriff’s officials said further information is not available for release due to the suspect being a juvenile.
