A driver was left trapped and transported to the hospital after an SUV crashed into the rear of a van and caused the SUV to roll over on a residential street in Lake Bluff, police said.
The Lake Bluff Fire Department and Lake Bluff Police Department responded around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday to the 300 block of East Blodgett Avenue in Lake Bluff for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported a Mercedes van and a Toyota RAV4 were involved, according to fire department radio traffic.
A 66-year-old woman was trapped inside the Toyota, which had rolled over.
The Lake Forest Fire Department, Libertyville Fire Department and the North Chicago Fire Department responded to assist the Lake Bluff Fire Department.
Fire crews extricated the woman from the SUV a short time later and she was loaded into an ambulance.
Lake Bluff Deputy Police Chief Erik Gehrke said paramedics transported her to a local hospital for evaluation “out of an abundance of caution.” She was not complaining of any injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes was uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
Gehrke said both vehicles had been traveling in the same direction on Blodgett Avenue when the Toyota struck the Mercedes in a rear-end crash.
The Mercedes had been turning left when it was struck from behind.
The impact resulted in the Toyota rolling over onto its roof. A tow truck was called to the scene to upright it and remove it.
Speed and driver error were likely the cause of the crash based on the officers’ investigation, Gehrke said.
The driver of the at-fault vehicle was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and driving without insurance.
