Firefighters from several departments worked overnight on Friday to extinguish a fire that left a home, which was under construction, fully engulfed in flames in Volo.

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2:25 a.m. Friday to the 34000 block of North Fischer Drive in Volo for a report of a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived in minutes and found a single-story house that was fully involved in flames, Fox Lake Fire Chief Ed Lescher said.

The fire was reported by the neighbors, who told emergency responders that the house was under construction and nobody was living there.

The area does not have fire hydrants, so a second alarm through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was requested, bringing in apparatus and a slew of water tenders to the scene from fire departments across the area.

Firefighters initiated defensive operations and pulled multiple hose lines to douse the fire from the outside.

A ladder truck with the Mundelein Fire Department later arrived and was deployed to flow more water onto the fire for an extended period of time.

The blaze was contained to the house and did not spread to other buildings.
