A man driving a tractor was uninjured after the farm cultivator he was towing caught on live wires, trapping him in the tractor on Washington Street near Gurnee Saturday morning.
The Gurnee Fire Department responded around 11:40 a.m. Saturday to the 17100 block of West Washington Street, just west of Hunt Club Road in unincorporated Gurnee, for a report of downed wires.

Firefighters arrived to find a tractor towing a farm cultivator that had hit live wires.
The wires were live and on the ground.
The driver of the tractor remained inside while field employees with ComEd responded to the scene.

The westbound lanes of Washington Street at Hunt Club Road were shut down while ComEd crews responded.
ComEd arrived at around 12:10 p.m. and used a pole to remove the wires from the tractor.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.

Gurnee Fire Department Lt. Eric Liebert reminded the public to always assume downed wires are live and dangerous.
If your vehicle ever hits wires, you should call 911 and stay inside the vehicle until a professional from the electric utility company deems it safe to exit.
