One person was transported to the hospital and the roadway was shut down after a truck slammed into a pole, leaving it severed and leaning over in Woodstock Tuesday evening.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Woodstock Police Department responded around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Washington Street and Mary Ann Street for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said fire crews arrived to find a single-vehicle crash involving a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The pickup truck appeared to have been traveling eastbound on Washington Street when it veered off the road and struck a utility pole head-on.

Firefighters reported the vehicle sustained heavy damage and the utility pole was damaged.

Vucha said the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Washington Street was shut down in both directions from Mary Ann Street to Elm Lane while emergency crews and utility personnel worked on the scene due to the extent of the damage to the utility pole.

The roadway was expected to be shut down for an extended time as ComEd responded to repair the pole, which was severed, Vucha said. The pole was leaning over.

Please avoid the area and use alternate routes,” the fire district said.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Woodstock Police Department.
