Police say an Antioch man tried running over his brother with a pickup truck while the two argued in a parking lot near the former Piggly Wiggly in Antioch Tuesday afternoon.
The Antioch Police Department responded around 2:10 p.m. Tuesday to the area of the former Piggly Wiggly, 460 Orchard Street, for a report of a disturbance in a nearby parking lot.
Antioch Police Department Public Information Officer Jared Brussaly said the victim reported that his brother, George Stachura, 60, of Antioch, had attempted to strike him with a Dodge pickup truck before fleeing the area.
The victim told police that Stachura had become upset with him and attempted to run him over with the truck, Brussaly said.
The victim, who was able to move out of the way of the truck without being struck, was not injured during the incident.
Brussaly said the incident occurred just east of the old Piggly Wiggly in a large parking lot shared by numerous businesses and part of a municipal lot.
Officers interviewed two additional witnesses during the investigation, Brussaly said.
One witness also provided officers with cell phone video footage capturing a portion of the event.
Brussaly said Antioch police officers located Stachura a few hours later and took him into custody without incident.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed and the case and approved charges against Stachura of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, a Class 4 felony.
Stachura faces one to three years in prison but could be sentenced to probation if convicted.
Brussaly said the argument was over a long-standing family dispute between the brothers.
He was transported to the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan on Wednesday for a First Appearance Court hearing.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Stachura pending trial, arguing he poses a danger to the victim and community.
Stachura remains held in the Lake County Jail while awaiting a detention hearing, which is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
