A Woodstock man is accused in court documents of intentionally driving a vehicle into a townhouse early Saturday after a domestic violence incident that left a woman with seven stitches, court records show.
Matthew Zamorano, 31, of Woodstock, has been charged with a Class 2 felony count of aggravated domestic abuse for pushing the unidentified woman in the chest, causing bruising, before striking the victim in the face with a closed fist, court records show.
Zamorano is also charged with a Class 3 felony count of criminal damage to property for intentionally crashing into the townhouse early Saturday morning, a Class 4 felony count for criminal damage to property for knocking down a utility pole at a Woodstock apartment complex, and a Class A misdemeanor for interfering with reporting an incident of domestic violence.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s inmate website, Zamorano is not currently being held in the McHenry County jail.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to the 2300 block of Linden Drive following reports of a vehicle crash with entrapment and injuries at 2:38 a.m. early Saturday, said Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha.
Firefighter/paramedics arrived within minutes, Vucha said, and found a passenger vehicle that had crashed into the first floor of an end-unit townhouse.
The vehicle caused significant damage to the exterior wall of the residence, including moderate intrusion into the townhouse living space.
The adult male driver exited the vehicle before the arrival of emergency crews, Vucha said.
The driver was evaluated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Two adults and two children asleep inside the residence at the time of the crash did not sustain any injuries, Vucha said.
Due to the extent of the damage, Vucha said, the residential unit was deemed uninhabitable pending repairs.
The Woodstock Building Department was requested to the scene to evaluate the structural damage, and the American Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced family with temporary lodging and other immediate needs.
According to a criminal complaint filed Saturday in the McHenry County Circuit Clerk’s Office, Zamorano was the person involved in the crash.
In the court documents, Zamorano is accused of pushing the victim hard enough to cause bruising before punching the victim in the face and causing a laceration.
The victim was taken after the attack to Northwestern Hospital, where she received 7 stitches, court records show.
In court documents for the felony count involving criminal property damage, Zamorano intended to cause harm to himself by driving the black Honda Civic into the townhouse.
Court records claim Zamorano drove into the kitchen and dining room of the building, causing significant damage.
In addition to the other charges, Zamorano is facing misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct and reckless driving for his role in the crash.
Zamorano is due to appear in court on June 8.
