Two teens riding a dirt bike suffered minor injuries after colliding with a passenger vehicle in a food pantry parking lot in Johnsburg, authorities said.
The Johnsburg Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 5:04 p.m. Thursday to the FISH of McHenry Food Pantry, 3515 North Richmond Road in Johnsburg, for a report of a crash with injuries.
Two boys were riding on a dirt bike in the parking lot of the food pantry when they collided with a passenger car, McHenry Township Fire District Battalion Chief Dave Harwood said.
Despite initial reports, the female driver of the vehicle stayed in the parking lot until help arrived, Harwood said.
Parents for both teens, who were approximately 14, arrived at the scene, Harwood said.
One teen who suffered some minor abrasions was taken home by their mother, Harwood said.
A second parent requested that the child be transported to the hospital by ambulance due to his injuries, Harwood said.
The adult female driver was not injured in the incident, Harwood said.
The Johnsburg Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
This is the second time in the past two months that a crash has taken place in the parking lot of FISH of McHenry Food Pantry.
Two people, including a pregnant woman, were transported to the hospital after an elderly driver crashed into a pedestrian and struck another car in a food pantry drive-thru line in Johnsburg in March.
In that crash, the initial report indicated a male victim was pinned between two cars after a driver accidentally struck him.
The adult male was walking between cars in the food drive line when he was struck by a vehicle in the previous crash, authorities said.
The vehicle, driven by an elderly female, was believed to have accidentally hit the man and then struck another car in a rear-end crash.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries, Kozel said.
A pregnant woman in the car that was struck was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.
The female driver was not injured.
