A woman was injured after hitting her head on a bridge while standing on a boat that was traveling on the Chain O’ Lakes near Antioch, initially prompting a water rescue response Saturday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Antioch Fire Department responded around 6:30 p.m. Saturday to the area of Captain’s Quarters, 38283 North Bolton Place in unincorporated Antioch, for a report of a boat crash.
The incident prompted a water rescue response with divers and boats from fire departments in the surrounding Antioch area.
A 911 caller reported no one was in the water and the boat involved had returned to the dock with one person who suffered a head injury.
The water rescue response was soon canceled and paramedics arrived to find the patient.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Chief Christopher Covelli said a pontoon boat was passing under a bridge in the channel near Captain’s Quarters.
An adult female passenger was standing on the boat and struck her head on the bridge.
The operator of the boat called 911 for an ambulance as a precaution, Covelli said.
Paramedics evaluated the woman and determined she was not seriously injured.
She signed a medical release after declining transport to the hospital by ambulance.
