A woman was stabbed and then her daughter, who tried intervening, was also stabbed by a suspect who tried robbing them outside of a store in Waukegan Saturday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 9:02 p.m. Saturday to the Burlington Coat Factory, 1501 North Lewis Avenue in Waukegan, for a report of an armed robbery.
Officers arrived and found a woman covered in blood sitting on the ground in front of the store.
Prosecutors said the woman reported she had been stabbed by a male suspect.
She was worried about her daughter, who was also cut and stabbed as well.
The Waukegan Fire Department responded to the scene with two ambulances and transported both victims to the hospital.
The victim told officers that the suspect approached and said, “Money, money” while holding a knife in his hand, prosecutors said.
The suspect then stabbed the woman on her right side. Her daughter tried to protect her mother and was also struck with the knife, prosecutors said.
Lake and McHenry County Scanner was told that the victim’s daughter is 18 years old.
The mother reportedly suffered injuries to her leg and her daughter suffered injuries to her face.
Officers located the suspect and arrested him. He identified himself in a surveillance photo, which showed him holding the knife, prosecutors said.
Felony charges are pending against the suspect, who remains held in custody.
The Waukegan Police Department has not proactively released information on the incident as of Monday.
