Two people were ejected from a motorcycle and hospitalized after the driver said he experienced a numb hand from a tattoo, causing him to crash in Algonquin, police said.
The Algonquin Police Department, Cary Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 4:30 p.m. on May 31 to North Main Street and Cary Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported two victims suffered possible head injuries but were conscious. A medical helicopter was placed on standby.
Fire crews arrived and reported finding a motorcycle involved in the roundabout intersection.
The medical helicopter was canceled but a second ambulance was requested.
Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Timothy Cooney said the crash involved a motorcycle, driven by a 47-year-old Rolling Meadows man, with a 42-year-old Rolling Meadows woman who was a passenger.
The driver reported to officers that he was experiencing numbness in his hand after receiving a tattoo earlier in the day.
The numbness affected his ability to operate the motorcycle’s clutch while navigating the roundabout, Cooney said.
The motorcycle struck the curb, causing both the two occupants to be thrown from the motorcycle.
Cooney said the man and woman were both transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Neither was wearing a helmet. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Cooney said.
No citations or criminal charges were issued and impairment was not suspected. A tow truck removed the damaged motorcycle from the scene.
