A convicted felon has been charged after prosecutors say he stabbed a woman and then stabbed her daughter, who tried protecting her mother, during an attempted robbery outside a store in Waukegan Saturday.
Dominic J. Longmire, 28, of Waukegan, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery indicating armed, robbery and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 9:02 p.m. Saturday to the Burlington Coat Factory, 1501 North Lewis Avenue in Waukegan, for a report of an armed robbery.
Officers arrived and found a woman covered in blood sitting on the ground in front of the store.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Dino Katris said the woman reported she had been stabbed by a male suspect, later identified as Longmire.
She was worried about her daughter, who was also cut and stabbed as well.
The Waukegan Fire Department responded to the scene with two ambulances and transported both victims to the hospital.
The victim told officers that the suspect approached and said, “Money, money” while holding a knife in his hand, Katris said.
Longmire then stabbed the woman on her right side, Katris said. Her daughter tried to protect her mother and was also struck and stabbed with the knife, Katris said.
Lake and McHenry County Scanner was told that the victim’s daughter is 18 years old.
The mother reportedly suffered injuries to her leg and her daughter suffered injuries to her face.
Officers located Longmire and arrested him. Longmire identified himself in a surveillance photo, which showed him holding the knife, Katris said.
Longmire was transported to the Lake County Courthouse and appeared in First Appearance Court on Monday morning.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain him pending trial, arguing he poses a danger to the community.
Lake County Judge Michael Nerheim granted the petition following a detention hearing, which was held on Monday afternoon.
The judge noted that Longmire has high scores on a public safety assessment report for re-offending and failing to appear in court.
“This is a crime of violence. It did involve the use of a weapon as well as significant injuries. There were multiple victims,” Nerheim said.
A public defender for Longmire made no arguments for his release as he is also being held in custody on a stayed sentence that was lifted.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Savannah Halcomb said Longmire has 11 prior warrants issued for his arrest in his background.
He was charged in July 2025 with retail theft in Waukegan and then arrested again later that same month for burglary and theft in Waukegan. The first case was dismissed after he pleaded guilty to burglary in the second case, court records show.
He was sentenced to 24 months of probation and released from custody.
Longmire was arrested less than two weeks later for possession of a stolen vehicle, theft and possession of drug paraphernalia in Waukegan and was held in custody.
He was released on May 18 after pleading guilty to the possession of a stolen vehicle charge and being sentenced to 180 days in jail and 18 months of periodic imprisonment, for which he received 104 days of credit for time served, as part of the plea deal, court records show.
Longmire was accepted into the Therapeutic Intensive Monitoring (TIM) program with the 19th Judicial Circuit Court as part of the agreement. He was then arrested less than three weeks later for the robbery and stabbing that occurred on Saturday.
Longmire remains held in the Lake County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court again on June 25 for a preliminary hearing.
