A semi-tractor-trailer truck rolled over and spilled over 2,500 gallons of paint, causing Route 53 in Long Grove to be shut down for approximately five hours, authorities said.

The Long Grove Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police responded around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to Route 53 and Lake Cook Road in Long Grove for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment.

Fire crews arrived and reported a semi-truck that rolled over onto its side.

The driver was out of the vehicle on his own without the need for extrication by the fire department.

A large fire department response was initially dispatched, including the Arlington Heights, Palatine, Buffalo Grove and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods fire departments, in addition to Long Grove.

Firefighters initially began investigating to determine whether the load being hauled was hazardous or not.

The Illinois State Police said it was determined that the crash involved a single-vehicle and no injuries were reported.

The incident occurred on the ramp from northbound Route 53 to westbound Lake Cook Road.

A specialized cleanup was requested due to approximately 2,600 gallons of paint being spilled from the trailer, the state police said.

Northbound Route 53 was shut down during the cleanup and removal of the truck and then reopened around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

It is unclear what caused the semi-truck to overturn and state police did not say whether any citations or charges were issued.
