Firefighters rescued an adult and a child who were trapped inside a truck that drove off Interstate 94 near Wadsworth and rolled over into the water, authorities said.
The Newport Township Fire Protection District, Gurnee Fire Department and Illinois State Police responded around 12:15 a.m. Saturday to Interstate 94 near the 5.75-mile marker in Wadsworth for a report of a rollover crash with entrapment.
Newport Township Fire Protection District Chief Mark Kirschhoffer said a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Interstate 94 south of the Wadsworth Road toll plaza.
The truck traveled off the interstate and rolled over, coming to rest in a ditch.
The truck landed in approximately two feet of water on its roof, Kirschhoffer said.
Firefighters extricated two people from the vehicle and paramedics evaluated them.
Kirschhoffer said they denied any injuries and were released at the scene without the need for transport to the hospital.
The Illinois Tollway Maintenance personnel assisted at the scene while crews were operating.
Illinois State Police said the crash only involved a single vehicle, which hydroplaned off the roadway into the grass ditch.
The driver was an adult male and the passenger was a female juvenile, state police said.
No lane closures were reported. It is unknown if any citations or charges were issued.
Antioch Automotive and Towing responded to the scene to upright the vehicle and remove it from the scene.
