Approximately 150 people came out to protest President Donald Trump, holding signs that said “Trump for Prison” and “Resist,” along Route 31 in McHenry on the president’s birthday on Sunday.
A “RISE UP!” rally sponsored by Indvisible McHenry County was held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday.
The protest was held on the corner of Route 31 and McCullom Lake Road in McHenry.
Attendees were asked to wear costumes and bring signs, flags and “joyful chats,” according to a flyer.
“As always, our rallies are non-violent and respectful of all individuals and of the properties of surrounding businesses. Please do not park near any open businesses. Celebrate Flag Day and democracy!” organizers said.
Approximately 150 people were counted in attendance at one point in the rally, lining the east side of Route 31 from Popeyes to Panera Bread.
Several attendees held signs referencing expletives against U.S. President Donald Trump, such as “FDT” and “F— Trump.”
The protest was held on Trump’s 80th birthday. One attendee brought a poster that said, “Crappy B-day to you, crapphy B-day to you, crappy B-day sleepy Donald, Crappy B-day to you.”
Other attendees brought signs that said, “Stand up for free speech,” “Stop ICE terror” and “No kings.”
Numerous other signs displayed referenced protecting fair elections and protecting votes.
The rally was held in the same location as several other similar protests organized by Indivisible McHenry County, including “Communities Not Cages,” “Workers Over Billionaires” and “ICE Out for Good.”
Also on Sunday, the Trump Truth Store in Crystal Lake held a celebration for Trump’s birthday.
An advertisement flyer said people were encouraged to come shop for their favorite patriotic, Christian, Military and Charlie Kirk merchandise while live music was played from 2-4 p.m. followed by a Trump happy birthday cake at 4 p.m.
The store’s owner said it was a “great turnout” and that the parking lot was full the entire day. “So many great people. The band was awesome! Thank you so much!”
