A garbage truck driver was trapped after the truck’s basket caught on overhead wires, ripping off the siding of a nearby home in Ingleside Wednesday afternoon.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday to the North Oakside Street south of Route 134 in Ingleside for a report of live wires on a garbage truck.
Emergency responders arrived to find wires on top of a Groot garbage truck with damage to a nearby home in the 34800 block of North Oakside Street.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Chief Christopher Covelli said the truck lifted its basket and made contact with overhead wires.
That caused the wires to rip off the electrical box and siding from the home.
Firefighters treated the wires as energized, and the driver of the garbage truck was trapped inside.
A field employee with ComEd arrived to de-energize the wires, allowing the driver to safely exit the truck.
Paramedics evaluated her as a precaution, and no one was injured.
Emergency and utility crews were seen coordinating with the residents of the damaged house and with an operations supervisor with Groot.
The Lake County Planning, Building and Development Department and a fire marshal with the Fox Lake Fire Protection District also responded to the scene to evaluate the damage to the home.
The house remained habitable.
