A suspect was taken into custody after police say he reportedly pointed a rifle at a neighbor, prompting a SWAT team to respond in a North Chicago neighborhood.
The North Chicago Police Department responded on the morning of June 15 to the area of 16th Street and Victoria Avenue in North Chicago for a report of a neighbor dispute.
North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn said officers arrived and learned a subject allegedly pointed a rifle at a neighbor.
The police department requested the assistance of the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team (EST).
Officers also obtained a search warrant for the residence of the suspect in the 1600 block of Victoria Avenue, Lunn said.
The SWAT team arrived and they moved toward the home to serve the search warrant.
The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident, Lunn said.
A rifle was recovered from the scene during the investigation, which remains ongoing.
Lunn said he did not have details regarding what led to the initial confrontation between the neighbors.
It was also unclear whether the suspect is legally allowed to possess firearms or if he made any statements to police. No charges have been announced.
North Chicago Police Chief Lazaro Perez did not immediately respond to a request for follow-up information on the case.
