Police are trying to identify off-road vehicle operators who were caught on video speeding, blowing stop signs and performing stunts through Huntley amid ongoing “dangerous behavior” by e-bikes and e-motos.
The Huntley Police Department said Thursday they have been working for months to address the increase in reckless and unlawful off-road electric bikes and motorcycles riding throughout the community.
Police say they have received 95 e-bike-related complaints in 2026, with 30 of those reported in June.
9 citations were issued with a $50-$1,000 fine range. There were at least 40 incidents involving riders fleeing from officers.
The Huntley Police Department says officers have conducted targeted traffic enforcement in areas with the highest number of complaints, issued citations and taken enforcement action when violations were observed.
“Unfortunately, the dangerous behavior continues. The video below is just one example of the reckless riding reported to the Huntley Police Department,” the department said while releasing a 10-second video.
Police say the video captures E-moto riders performing stunts, traveling at high speeds, disregarding stop signs and creating dangerous situations for everyone around them.
“These actions put not only the riders at risk, but also motorists, pedestrians, and others who are simply trying to safely use our roadways,” the department said.
Four adults and five juveniles were waiting to cross at the crosswalk just outside of the video frame and a motorcycle was approaching the intersection when the riders performed the stunts and disregarded the laws.
Police say they need the public’s help and anyone who recognizes any of the individuals shown in the video are asked to call the Huntley Police Department Tip Line at 847-515-5333 or 847-515-5311.
Those who know the identities of the people in the video are asked not to identify them online.
Police said parents should be aware that under Huntley’s ordinance and Illinois state law, individuals under 18 years of age are prohibited from operating electric bikes on public roadways, regardless of the bike’s class or wattage.
Parents or guardians may be cited for allowing a juvenile access or operation of an e-bike in violation of the ordinance.
“Choosing to flee from police or ignore traffic laws is not harmless fun. These actions can result in serious injuries, criminal charges, and life-changing consequences,” the police department said.
“Our goal has never been to write tickets. Our goal is to prevent a tragedy before it happens. With your help, we can keep Huntley’s streets safe for everyone,” they added.
