A Round Lake man was seriously injured and transported to the hospital after crashing his motorcycle on Interstate 94 near Wadsworth, leaving the highway partially shut down.
The Newport Fire Protection District, Gurnee Fire Department and Illinois State Police responded around 3:15 p.m. on June 20 to Interstate 94 near milepost 3 in Wadsworth for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported a motorcycle crashed and the victim was bleeding from the head, according to emergency radio traffic.
Bystanders were able to get the victim out of traffic and onto the left shoulder before emergency crews arrived.
The Illinois State Police said the crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 south of Route 173.
A preliminary investigation showed a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide was traveling eastbound on the interstate when the operator lost control and crashed, state police said.
An ambulance transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
State police said they did not have an update on the victim’s medical status. The driver was a 56-year-old Round Lake man.
Fire crews reported at the scene that the man’s injuries were considered critical at the time of transport.
Troopers later reported that it was determined his injuries were serious but he was conscious in the hospital.
Traffic was obstructed until the roadway was cleared around 6:20 p.m. after the investigation was complete and a tow truck removed the damaged motorcycle.
