A woman was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after she was thrown from a horse and stepped on by the animal at a horse farm near Harvard Tuesday morning.
The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District responded around 11:42 a.m. Tuesday to a property in the 16000 block of State Line Road in unincorporated Harvard for a report of a traumatic injury.
The incident happened at Beyond the Saddle, 16003 State Line Road, which describes itself as a foundation “dedicated to providing a place where people and horses alike can work together to heal and nourish one another.”
Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District Chief Thomas Linneman said emergency crews arrived at the horse farm and found an adult female patient.
The woman had been riding a horse when she was thrown from the animal and then stepped on.
A LifeNet medical helicopter and Mercyhealth MD-1, which is a mobile response physician, were requested to the scene, Linneman said.
The Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Fire Department was requested to establish a landing zone. The medical helicopter landed in a nearby hayfield.
Paramedics transferred the victim to the flight crew for transport to a Level 1 trauma center, Linneman said.
Linneman said she had suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The helicopter flew the victim to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital — Riverside in Rockford.
Further details regarding the circumstances of the incident were not known.
